There’s lots to love about Australian summers – longs days at the beach, the smell of chops and snags on the BBQ in the evening, kids running around in the sprinklers, drinks with friends – the list goes on!
However, there is one part of Australian summers that really grinds our gears and that is the copious amount of flies. They’re annoying, grotty and just when you think you’ve killed them all, one little buzz zips past your ear and it’s enough to make you want to lose it.
But never fear, we have heard there is a household hack that gets rid of these cheeky bastards for once and for all and we though it was criminal not to share it with you. So buckle up, because this is a game changer:
Lemon and cloves. It’s as simple as that!
All you need to do is take a lemon and chop the ends off, so the it sits without rolling on its side.
Cut the lemon in half and pop each half into a little dish.
Then, you simply just poke around 20 cloves – pointy end down – into the flesh of the lemon and put a few extra on top, so the top is covered in cloves (see picture below).

If it doesn’t seem to be working, add more cloves!
Every day, just give the lemon a little squeeze to keep it juicy.
And that’s it! No more shouting, “shut the bloody door, you’ll let the flies in”! You’ve done it, you’ve conquered those pesky buggers!
This is the perfect Christmas Day household hack! So, give it a go and let us know how you get on.
Have a lovely, fly-free day!
